Hi! We’ll be posting here as often as possible with updates on new veggies available along with what’s still on the market. :)
(Ignore the date in the upper left corner; it’s jus when we first started doing this! Menu items are current to the week.)
BASIL
Genovese basil - aromatic, delicious, large leaves — use for cooking, garnish, or blend into pesto etc. Per order only — Limited supply
CARROTS currently unavailable — more soon!
These Nantes-type Napoli carrots, sown early this spring, are slender and earthy - a colorful addition to any salad.
CHARD
Swiss Chard is a champ. Cold weather, hot weather — chard doesn’t care and produces big beautiful tasty leaves for you to braise, sautee, or even enjoy raw. Per order only — Limited supply
CUCUMBERS
Cucumbers are in full swing! With about ten plants in production, we’re pulling several of these Marketmore 76 cukes everyday! We dunk them in fresh cool water and lightly rub the prickers from the skin. Juicy and mild flavored, a must-have for salads and snacks.
GREEN ONION (aka Bunching Onion)
Where would any of us be without onions? The world would be a far less delicious place. That’s why these Evergreen Long White bunching onions are a must-have.
LEEKS
Ever had potato leek soup? It’s one of our family’s favorites. With a little dill and some fresh pepper, mmm… Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah — we have leeks! American Flag Leeks, to be exact!
(For those of you asking, what’s the difference between a leek and a green onion? Both are alliums, but leeks are larger and milder and need to be cooked. Green onions can be cooked or eaten raw, used as a garnish, etc.)
LETTUCE currently unavailable — more soon!
The high temps of summer make growing lettuce a challenge, but we have more on the way: Buttercrunch, Flashy Butter Oak, Rouge d’Hiver, and Rumpled Wave, Romaine, and more
KALE
Purple kale, dinosaur kale, Lacinato Kale — call it what you want, this is the King of Kale. Belnd it into smoothies, sautee it, add it to soups and stews, this heart green will do whatever you want and pack all the nutrients you need. Per order only — Limited supply
PEPPERS
These greenies will turn bright red — we grow both a California Wonder Sweet and a Big Red Sweet — but they’re dang tasty right now, too. Limited supply
TOMATOES
Tomatoes — what everyone wants! We have Fox Cherry, Gardener’s Delight and Honey Drop (cherry variety) plus Purple Heart and Brandywine (slicing) plus a Speckled Roman ideal for stewing / sauce-making. Our new vertical growing method has made for some amazingly tall plants, and the indeterminate tomatoes are ripening daily. Put your order in early to get some!
TURNIP
Enjoy these Golden Globe Turnips raw in salads or in a soup or stew! We like ours with potatoes and local ground beef. Mmmm…
ZUCCHINI
Zucchinis are funny — one day there’s nothing there and then next day they’re the length of your forearm. Amazing as a side dish or used in baking, these Dark Star are full of flavor and color.
COMING SOON:
We tried a couple of experiments this year, like vertically growing tomatoes, and growing squash in a greenhouse. Well, these heat-loving plants have exploded. Our Butternut “winter” squash will probably be ready in late August! Also on deck: French Fingerling potatoes.
NOTA BENE:
This is all possible because of you and your support. Thanks so much for your enthusiasm and patronage. All our veg are grown from heirloom seeds — you can always start your own growing from our plants! We make our own compost and use compost from Reber Rock Farm. We never use pesticides or herbicides, and recent soil tests have shown our products to be safe and nutritious.
We will happily take your order any day of the week for Tuesday and Saturday harvests and pick-up. When there is an exception, we will let you know right away!
Thanks,
Tim, Dava, Tatum & Sabine at Mountain Town Garden
